Scri8e

Ask Questions About Your Slack History.

Most decisions were made in a thread nobody can find. scri8e reads the Slack channels you choose and answers with the messages behind the answer, who wrote them and when. Private channels stay private.

Why did we move off the old billing provider?

Failed renewals. Retries were silently dropped for annual plans, and support couldn’t see why. The switch was agreed in a thread in March and finished in May.

A decision older than 90 days is flagged, so you know to check it is still the plan.

What It Reads

Channels, Threads and Who Said What

Connect once, pick channels, and scri8e reads in the background, then again every day.

What it reads

  • Messages and threads in the channels you select. Leave the selection empty and it reads every channel it can join.
  • Member profiles, so an answer can say who said what
  • Mentions turned into names, so “@Priya” reads as a person
  • Private channels, once the scri8e app has been added to them

What it skips, and its limits

  • The latest 1,000 messages per channel on each sync. Older history in a very busy channel isn’t reached.
  • Direct messages aren’t read.
  • A lone “thanks” or “ok” that nobody replied to is skipped as filler. A short reply inside a thread is kept, because it is often the answer.
  • Asking from inside Slack is next. Today you ask in scri8e.

A Private Channel Stays Private

scri8e follows Slack’s own rules for who can read a channel, and re-reads them on every sync.

Public channels
Visible to everyone in your scri8e workspace, the same as in Slack.
Private channels
Visible only to people who are members of that channel in Slack. Membership is refreshed every sync.
Matched by email
Teammates are matched to their Slack account by email. If the two differ, they see no private-channel content.

scri8e never posts. To read a channel the app joins it, which shows in Slack the same as adding any other app.
